It’s time to add your name to the roster of incredible women in the JAWS directory by becoming a member of the Journalism & Women Symposium, one of the few national organizations that devotes itself to advancing women in journalism.

You have several options for a JAWS membership.

Students: $35

Emerging Professional: $100 ($50 for each of first two years after leaving school)

New Voting Member: $50 for first year

Continuing Voting Member: $75 a year; two-year membership, $140

Associate Member: $75 a year

Lifetime Member: $1,200

Please choose your member type below. Note that all memberships are subject to board approval.

Voting: The following people may join as a Voting Member of JAWS:

  1. Journalists who are employed in digital news; broadcast, cable or online TV; radio or podcasts; newspapers; news services or syndicates; magazines; and social platforms that disseminate news and information.
  2. Journalists whose primary occupation is freelancing in the fields listed above.
  3. Journalism educators and administrators.
  4. People whose primary occupation is research or publishing in the field of journalism.
  5. People employed by organizations dedicated to serving journalists.

Associate: The following people may join:

  1. Students of journalism at the college level or above.
  2. Former journalists with at least three years and who embrace or further the mission of Journalism and Women Symposium.
  3. Freelance journalists who meet all of the following criteria:
  • Currently spend less than 50 percent of their time working for independent news organizations
  • Who do not pitch stories on behalf of clients to other journalists
  • Have no media relations role
  • Who embrace or further the mission of Journalism and Women Symposium.

Student: Those currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program may join at a discounted rate, as non-voting members.

Emerging Professional: Those who have recently graduated, membership applies for each of first two years after leaving school.
