Friends of JAWS:

JAWS is once again committing to support 10 young women who are launching their journalism careers for three full days of networking, training, and mentoring at our annual Conference and Mentoring Project (CAMP). It is an amazing opportunity for women to launch their careers with the support and guidance of some of journalism’s top stars. Two years ago in New Mexico, our fellowship winners heard feminist icon Gloria Steinem inspire us with her wisdom and wit about the ongoing quest for equal pay. Last year in Vermont, we heard candid remarks from New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson, who has one of the most visible leadership roles of women in journalism.

But we need your help. The fellowship program costs about $10,000, which helps cover the travel, accommodations and fees for 10 young women out of the dozens of applicants who are competing for these coveted spots at our Conference and Mentoring Project (CAMP) Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 in Palm Springs. Can you help us reach that goal?

Your tax-deductible donation means a lot to JAWS and to these next-generation trailblazers.

-- Just $50 helps cover hosting a fellowship winner for the keynote dinner or a training session.

-- Just $150 pays for a shared hotel room for two nights.

-- A $350 donation covers registration for a three-day weekend of training on visual storytelling, healthcare reporting, food policy politics, data reporting and funding your dream journalism project.

-- A $1,000 donation pays for the full travel and accommodation costs for one fellowship winner.

These are some of our favorite success stories, with past winners going on to jobs at the Chicago Tribune, PBS, National Geographic, LinkedIn and The Washington Post. Megan Kamerick, our recent past president, started as a fellow and our current president, Lauren Whaley, was also a fellowship winner.

JAWS has been providing support to advance the careers of women in journalism for nearly three decades. Learn more about JAWS' mission and history here.

JAWS has grown a lot during the last few years, increasing our member support and programming through membership and conference fees, grants and corporate support, and the generosity of donors who support our mission of empowering women in journalism. Help us continue to grow and thrive by making your donation today.
